About
The Butterfly House Residency is a program supporting First Nations artists through dedicated time, space, and resources to deepen their practice. Offered in partnership with RMIT, the residency takes place at McCraith House—also known as the Butterfly House or Larrakeyah—located on the traditional land of the Bunurong People in Dromana, on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula. This setting provides artists with a unique environment to focus on advancing a specific project or area of their practice, while connecting with Country.
About the Artist/s
We welcome Jaadwa composer, producer and sound artist James Howard as our 2025 Butterfly House Resident.
‘My residency at Butterfly House will provide an ideal opportunity to discover fresh approaches to composition and production. I see this as a time to play. A time to break away from familiar and habitual processes and rediscover the wonders of creative sound making. Recently I have felt the compulsion to find interesting and exciting ways to compose outside of my established tool kit. Having the space and time to make in an open-ended manner is the greatest gift that this opportunity could provide me, and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in.’
