little operations: Carla Zimbler

Carla Zimbler was the 2024 Little Operations Artist, developing keep the light on for me, a performative project exploring deathcare, end-of-life practices, and spiritual mediumship.

'This work involves sourcing bedside lamps from deceased estates and transforming them into responsive instruments. Motion, touch and sound-reactive tools will cause the lamps to flicker, pulse and emit noise, inviting the spirits back to earth for a fleeting moment to mediate communication and form a connective conduit.'

keep the light on for me was presented within Expiry D8, a larger project Carla curated for MPavilion in December 2024—a meeting place for liberating conversations and inspiring new attitudes about death-care.
