Little Operations: Rae Howell

Composer, performer and director Rae Howell presented her work in development The Piano: Hook, Line and Tinker, as part of Little Operations 2025.

The Piano: Hook, Line and Tinker imagines a slow-motion, semi-exploded view of the many parts that make up a piano, from the internal action mechanism—levers, dampers and hammers—to the keys, strings, and cabinetry. Honouring treasured family heirlooms and countless neglected pianos that may be haphazardly discarded and unserviceable, the work invites audiences to pause and reflect on a piano's journey and its lifetime of musical stories.
